{Photo Styling & Articles for HGTV} Creating Dessert Tables

Share To:

I recently had the amazing opportunity of doing some freelance work for HGTV! I styled several photo shoots along with writing articles for the HGTV website. The first article, which was just published is on “Creating Dessert Tables”. Laura Winslow {photographer} and I went with a yellow and gray color scheme for an engagement party dessert table with a fresh, mod feel! Laura captured every little detail beautifully! This theme would work well for parties, showers and even weddings! I fell in love with this color scheme after seeing the dessert table that Melody of Sweet & Saucy Shop created for Tori & Dean’s Vow Renewal Party. The lemon drop cupcakes and big flower on the cake made by my local baker, Melissa of Decadent Delights were inspired from Melody’s gorgeous desserts. Cake pops, macarons and cookies were provided by vendors we work with online. {full list below} Candy and favor boxes from my local candy shop added to variety of sweets.

  22. Trish says:

I LOVE THIS! Especially the love sign! Can the sign be a Friday giveaway?! Please! It wasn’t at my local HomeGoods.

  23. Beautiful!! Very clean and modern look. I love it!

  24. Valerie@yellow+gray says:

Kim, absolutely love the design and well, of course the colors since that’s the name of my company 🙂

Love the idea of the shower curtain backdrop, how did you set it up?

    • Kim says:

Well, that is adorable business name since it’s such a great combo! 🙂
For the photos, we used Laura’s photography backdrop equipment.
For an actual party, you could wrap the fabric around a large blank canvas or foam core boards.

      • Audrey says:

Is there any particular reason why you would use foam boards or canvas for a real party, rather than photogrpahy equipment? I ask because I’m thinking of investing in a photography backrop for $50-60 that I could use as a party backdrop for all the parties I throw. When we have one at someplace besides our house, I always find the background to be less than ideal, but don’t want the hassle of transporting some very large homemade item. I was thinking a photography backdrop that goes in a little bag might be ideal. Or is it just too ugly/unwieldly?

  25. Mrs. Romero says:

Adorable!!! I would like to know how do you know how much dessert to use per person ??

    Thank you

  26. Kristen says:

Wow! I stumbled across your site the other day, I think via Project Nursery, and I am just in awe of all of the eye candy! You do such a fabulous job. I loved reading your profile, because one paragraph sounded so much like me: pink, ruffles, teeny bopper at heart, sweets, Twilight, and NKOTB rocks!

I am LOVING this yellow and grey theme, and so want to get one of those shower curtains. We don’t have a HomeGoods in my state, so a giveaway or any info on it or whatever would be so so fabulous.

    Thank you!

  27. So stunning. Love the yellow and gray color combo!
