Flora and The Flamingo…

flamingo paper craft-4

I am so excited to be participating in a creative book series on Paging Supermom today! Perfect for summer, they have asked their favorite bloggers to create a craft inspired by a favorite children’s book.

I am obsessed with flamingos (remember the flamingo party I almost hosted last year?), so when I spotted this book, Flora and the Flamingo, I knew I had to get it for Kate. The illustration and typography on the cover sold me without even opening the book. Once we “read” it together, I quickly realized that is a picture book with no words. The gorgeous illustrations tell a story of a girl and a flamingo who explore their friendship through synchronized dance. Kate was so, so cute and made up her own story to tell me while looking at the pictures. Each time she “reads” it, the story changes a bit. Too cute!

From the publisher, Chronicle BooksIn this innovative wordless picture book with interactive flaps, Flora and her graceful flamingo friend explore the trials and joys of friendship through an elaborate synchronized dance. With a twist, a turn, and even a flop, these unlikely friends learn at last how to dance together in perfect harmony. Full of humor and heart, this stunning performance (and splashy ending!) will have readers clapping for more!

I loved that it challenged Kate to be creative and come up with her own story to tell about this adorable duo. For our book-inspired craft, we decided to create a flamingo paper puppet dance recital!

I have such a soft spot for flamingos! What a darling book! One that I love reading with my daughter is “the little engine that could” or “the little house”. I love the old fashioned pictures and prose. :)

This book is adorable! The flamingo is my spirit animal!

I remember reading The Berenstain Bears series throughout my childhood most vividly. Always a good lessons to be learnt in those books.

I adore Flora and the Flamingo. I purchased it without realising that there were no words but that’s one of the things I love most about it. So I won’t be entering but had to comment because I got overexcited. I too am flamingo obsessed. The combination of black, white and pink is one of my current favourite colour combinations in decorating right now. This book, and Sharon Montrose’s flamingo photographs!

I was wondering if there’s a chance to have a 0 drawn with the same letter style of the legs? I am celebrating my 40th birthday with a flamingo theme and would love to add the 0 to the 4 😀
    Thank you!
