Flora and The Flamingo…

flamingo paper craft-4

I am so excited to be participating in a creative book series on Paging Supermom today! Perfect for summer, they have asked their favorite bloggers to create a craft inspired by a favorite children’s book.

I am obsessed with flamingos (remember the flamingo party I almost hosted last year?), so when I spotted this book, Flora and the Flamingo, I knew I had to get it for Kate. The illustration and typography on the cover sold me without even opening the book. Once we “read” it together, I quickly realized that is a picture book with no words. The gorgeous illustrations tell a story of a girl and a flamingo who explore their friendship through synchronized dance. Kate was so, so cute and made up her own story to tell me while looking at the pictures. Each time she “reads” it, the story changes a bit. Too cute!

From the publisher, Chronicle BooksIn this innovative wordless picture book with interactive flaps, Flora and her graceful flamingo friend explore the trials and joys of friendship through an elaborate synchronized dance. With a twist, a turn, and even a flop, these unlikely friends learn at last how to dance together in perfect harmony. Full of humor and heart, this stunning performance (and splashy ending!) will have readers clapping for more!

I loved that it challenged Kate to be creative and come up with her own story to tell about this adorable duo. For our book-inspired craft, we decided to create a flamingo paper puppet dance recital!
