My Halloween Mantel + Printable Spooky Halloween Banner

I finally finished decorating my black and white Spooky mantel! After I researched black and white Halloween ideas for my HGTV post, I decided I wanted to go with it. I was really inspired by Shelley from House of Smiths’ Halloween decor. I love how my mantel turned out. I was able to leave most of the items there that are typically there day to day. My mirror and clock from HomeGoods worked perfectly with the black and white color scheme. I also found the adorable Halloween frame there last year {still need to put my own photo in it!}. I picked up the web runner, skull plate and skull pillow at Target. The spooky black crow and white funkin came from Hobby Lobby. Shelley whipped me up a silhouette decal to use on the funkin and she is now offering it in her shop! I used white ruffle pillows from the deal on Groopdealz we featured a couple of weeks ago.

Last week, I hosted Divas {as in Domestic Divas} at my house. If you aren’t familiar, Divas is a group of my girlfriends that get together every 3 weeks to eat, drink, chat and sometimes craft. Well, we haven’t done a craft in awhile and now that I have tons of party crafting tools, I figured it was time. The girls came over to see the new house, eat a delicious Italian meal {take out, of course…who has time to cook?} and craft! We made this SPOOKY banner using the same paper medallion technique I shared in my Spooky Halloween sign tutorial here. I uploaded the Spooky Banner Letter Circles so you can download and make your own, too!

That skull is scary, huh? I bought that last year and I’m not sure what I was thinking, but my kids aren’t afraid so we’re good.

How are you decorating for Halloween this year?

Same as usual or did you get anything new?

You always decorate so beautifully. And no, I’m not decorating for this Halloween or Thanksgiving. We’re having company stay with us for the holiday season. I’m in the midst of re-doing our place – everything is total disarray. I will do something for the holidays though. (TMI???)

Don’t worry! There is always next year! I didn’t decorate for Halloween at all until I had kids! :) My BFF made the banner that night and was excited because it was her first and only Halloween decoration.

Just purchase our FIRST “fake” pumpkin and I plan to carve our last name into it. I’m thinking that we’ll get a new one each year and then after a few years have a collection going :)

Also bought a TON of new mums. They come back every year, so once they lose their look, plant them in the yard and AUTUMN magic happens the following year. Late spring and then summer they’re a nice green accent and then when Autumn comes that punch of color totally livens the yard! I bought more this year than I have in the past for in and outside but the colors just ROCK!

Another run thing I started since we have a b-day a few days from Halloween, is making mini gauze Styrofoam ghosts to hang from the ceiling. I’m also making them with my Brownie Troop for their Halloween / Juliete Gordon Low b-day party this week and everyone gets to decorate their own. It’s a fun personal touch and a decoration they can keep keep from year to year – super simple too!

Love the mantle! I’m not much of a skull person – but it works!!

    Hi Kim,
How are you? Your mantel came out really cute! We’ve been having fun decorating…I haven’t done stylish, just some fun art projects that my son and I have been working on. We’ve been painting pumpkins that I draw (http://doodlebuds.blogspot.com/2011/10/its-been-awhile.html). I cut them out and have hung them up in the many windows of the front of our house. It’s been fun! Next up…glitter pumpkins!
    Enjoy your Halloween preps!

We have lots of mums, pumpkins, and scarecrows outside. I am putting up more lights and Halloween decorations in my bay window this week. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so it is Halloween Central! Thanks for sharing! ~Dee
