Preppy Pool Party :: Celebrating Tommy’s 7th Birthday

As you may know, we recently celebrated our sweet boy, Tommy’s 7th birthday party! It has become tradition for us to throw a big pool party each year for his birthday since we live in Arizona and it’s usually over 100 degrees by mid June. We were excited that our pool and backyard were finished just in the nick of time! The party colors and style were inspired by the fabulous navy and green cabana stripe pillows and umbrellas that I recently ordered from Pottery Barn to add some color to the backyard decor. Vicki from Vicki Lynn Photography captured all of the details of the party!

Our paper lanterns in dark blue and kelly green were a must for this outdoor party. I used them both inside the house and in the backyard!

My fabulous friends at Pottery Barn Kids sent these perfect green/navy striped turtle towels and camping lanterns in navy and green. They perfectly matched the party decor!

The day before the party, I spotted the navy/white striped cabana on a postcard from our local pool supply store! Though it ended up being quite hot in there, the kids loved it.

Our green polka dot umbrellas from Tommy’s party last year were perfect to use this year, along with a family sized towel and navy adironack chairs from Pottery Barn Kids.

I created a simple dessert table in our dining room which leads right out to the patio.  Giant, round balloons were a perfect and easy backdrop!

What’s a party without cupcakes? I baked chocolate cupcakes (Tommy’s fave) in our green and blue striped baking cups and topped our new Printable Pool Party Designs! I ordered decorated sugar cookies from Mandy of Sugar on Top and she did an incredible job. Everyone was so impressed with the designs! I have no idea how she can recreate the exact font from the invitation in frosting. So amazing.

Stripes, beach balls and monogram cookies….perfection!

My mom made chocolate cake pops in green and white and we filled the white vessels with our blue gumballs. My BFF, Kristi always makes fruit pizza and when I spotted this beach ball idea on Pinterest, I asked her to make it in blue and green (blueberries and kiwi). Didn’t it turn out fabulous?

I bought large cookies and placed them in our new green rugby striped favor bags lined with glassine bag liners (to prevent grease), and topped with twine and custom printable tags.

We just got fabulous blue and white striped popcorn boxes in stock (coming soon to the shop!) and I designed green monogrammed party circles to add to the boxes.

Our navy and green plates, cups, napkins and straws were perfect for the theme! Gumball tubes are festive favors for the guests to take home and the kids love them!

Tommy requested an ice cream cake (yum!) so I ordered a simple one from Baskin Robbins and topped with printable flag bunting and one of the amazing cookies! I ordered custom rugby striped wooden forks to serve with the cake and they were adorable! (coming soon to the shop!)

Our sweet boy….and yummy cake! Don’t you love the “fudge crunch” in between the layers of ice cream cake?

Fun with friends….

Happy 7th Birthday to our amazing boy, Tommy!

Hi Kim! Would you please share your tips for displaying the large balloons?! Are they filled with helium or blown up with air and how are they attached? Any information is appreciated! I love the colors you chose for this party and also love the new style bunting :)

I was wondering that myself Melissa!

      Toni K. says:

I was thinking that maybe she taped them with ribbon to the back of the table? I was wondering the same thing. :)

The balloons were filled with helium and I anchored them with filled mason jars on the floor behind the table. (Probably not the best idea to have glass on the floor, but I was in a rush!) Maybe anchor them with standard balloon anchors from the party store?

  31. 45

All I can say is AWESOME! So well-prepared and so organized, no wonder all you can see are happy faces!

  32. 46

I personally blog too and I am publishing a little something alike to this particular blog post, “Preppy Pool Party :: Celebrating Tommy

  33. 47

I was curious if you ever considered changing the layout of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.

But maybe you could a little more in the
way of content so people could connect with it better.

Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two
images. Maybe you could space it out better?

  34. 48

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much approximately this, such as you wrote the e book in it or something.
I believe that you simply can do with some p.
    c. to drive the message home a little bit, however instead of that, this is wonderful blog.
A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.

  35. 49

But the best deal in town right now is on the Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from Costco
which comes in a large 78oz jar. In the case of olive oil, there are certain standards
that have to be followed for using virgin label. And, as you probably already know,
more breakage = less retained length.

No matter if some one searches for his vital thing, therefore he/she wishes
to be available that in detail, therefore that thing is maintained
    over here.

  37. 51

Hello! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up
losing a few months of hard work due to no backup.
Do you have any methods to stop hackers?

  38. 52

Check out the slideshow that accompanies this article to
see examples of some of the images from the site, and then go check out Dreamstime.
A typical photo will take 20-30 minutes, though she has spent up to two hours on a single image.
Clicking photographs in the wild is not as easy as
    it seems to.

  39. 53

An extremely great post it made me titter.

  40. 54

Amazing issues here. I’m very glad to see your article. Thank you so much and I am taking a look forward to contact you. Will you kindly drop me a e-mail?
