Happy Monday! I just arrived back home after a fun weekend in Vegas! While we had a great time, we missed the kids and it’s nice to be home. Now, it’s time to get focused back on work and an exciting project that I’m working on this week. Since I started The TomKat Studio, I have really shied away from requests for wedding designs and styling. I’ve really been focused on parties, particularly children’s parties because I absolutely love them! However, a great opportunity came up to work on a wedding project and I thought it would be a fun change of pace. I’m looking forward to collaborating on the project with my friend, Kori of Paper & Pigtails and having the project photographed by Vicki Lynn Photography! While I’ve been researching, I’ve come across some gorgeous wedding cupcakes and thought I would share them for Cupcake Monday. (above)

I also came across the two cake photos that I saved for inspiration over 10 years ago for my own wedding! I guess that goes to show that classic, beautiful designs never go out of style. My own wedding cake was supposed to be modeled after the cake on the left, with the champagne colored ribbon but it just didn’t quite turn out like Martha’s. 🙂

I would love to hear about your WEDDING cake! What did it look like?
What do you think of serving cupcakes at a wedding?

  1. my cake was a simple three white cake with fall leaves, pumpkins and acorns made out of sugar. Just perfect for our fall wedding.

  2. Darling! Those second ones are my favorite.

I love, love, love the cupcake idea. I think you can do some super cute things with cupcakes. I myself am going to try and set up a photo shoot with an inspired idea of using a tree to suspend the cupcakes from (a hand -made tree). I will send you photos if you wish when I am done.
I think you should take the job with cupcakes. I think you can include a whole new dimension using them, great for photos!!!

Still love my wedding cake design. Simple all white three tier cake with white large roses on top.
I think cupcakes are a great idea! My middle sister did that for her wedding. It was from a Martha Stewart wedding magazine cover. Yellow icing topped cupcakes in beautiful swirls with fondant heart cupcake toppers embossed with their initials…P & T
Then they cut a cupcake in half when it came to cutting the cake. I thought it was adorable!

So excited about our fun project!!! It’s been a while since I have thought about wedding cakes, but I love the cupcake idea!! I actually had a traditional tiered cake in a pale yellow with yellow and orange tulips on the top and coming down the side! Sweet memories!

My hubby and I recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony. For the cake, I re-purposed a chandelier into a cake stand. We had a simple 8″ vanilla cake decorated with large ivory rosettes on the top part of the stand. We added strawberry swirl cupcakes on the smaller parts of the stand, also with ivory icing. It was so simple and lovely and the cupcakes were a hit just as much as the cake! (you can see pics on my website.)

While looking for a wedding accent color for our wedding, I found an apple green silk ribbon that I fell in love with….that color would later come to be known as “Tina Green!” Our wedding cake was 5 layers of off white buttercream frosting with scrolls piped in Tina Green forsting decorating the layers. Fresh flowers were at the top. Very classic and very beautiful. I love the idea of cupcakes at a wedding! Our kid’s preschool teacher is getting married this September and she loves cupcakes so I can’t wait to see if she and her fiance have them at their wedding!

  8. Francesca says:

I’m not married so cannot comment/contribute very much – I enjoyed reading today’s post though Kim, and all of the cakes described sound beautiful.

  9. I think serving cupcakes at a wedding is a great idea! As a wedding planner, I would say it is a really popular trend right now and can be a huge money-saver! Can’t wait to hear more details on your new project!

    Perfect cupcakes… :))

I photographed a gorgeous sunset wedding last year in St. Augustine Beach … cupcakes with gorgeous yellow icing were served and the huge cupcake “tree” was simply beautiful. In fact, the last two weddings I photographed served cupcakes instead of cake. So fun!!!

  12. Michelle says:

My cake was the second most important thing at my wedding, behind only my dress!!! It was a perfect 5 layer square cake with 3 inch brown chocolate satin ribbon with a rhinestone trim topped with a 5″ rhinestone initial. It was perfect!!! We had red velvet cookies for our grooms cake instead of another cake.

We did a twist on the top layer though. Instead of saving it for our one year anniversary, we cut it into 12 pieces and had a piece each month.

  13. Joyce says:

I ordered cupcakes for our wedding and not only did it save us money, but cake was ready when our guest were! We did cupcakes with three different designs.
