How to Make a Spooky Halloween Sign + Free Printable

Share To:

I have been meaning to create a tutorial for this fun sign I made using our Spooky Halloween Printable Collection. I created the sign as a prop for a photo shoot that my sweet friend, Lindsay of Banner Boutique styled to  showcase her fabulous hair accessories. Today was perfect timing to create and share a full tutorial, as I am part of a group of fabulous bloggers sharing HALLOWEEN inspiration today! So, read on for full instructions on how to make this sign and then visit my fellow Holiday Headquarters bloggers Halloween posts linked below!

You will need:
  • 6″ cake board {available at craft stores}
  • 1 sheet decorative paper for background {black polka dot}
  • 1 sheet decorative paper for accordion medallion {orange stripe}
  • 4″ printable Spooky Halloween circles {FREE download this week!}
  • circle cutter/mat  {now available in our shop}
  • 7″ or 8″ cookie stick or dowel
  • ruler
  • bone folder
  • scissors/paper trimmer
  • tape and double-sided tape
  • glue gun
  • ribbon

{Step One} Use a circle cutter to cut 6″ circle for background of sign. Attach with double-sided tape to the 6″ cake board.

{Step Two} Use a circle cutter to cut our Printable 4″ Party Circle design. I used the 4.25″ setting to create a white border around the edge.

{Step Three} Cut a 5″ x 12″ strip of the orange paper. Use bone folder to create creases every .75″. Fold paper accordion style. Cut in half to create two 2.5″ strips.

{Step Four} Attach cookie stick to the base using regular tape.

{Step Five} Using hot glue, attach ends of the orange accordion strips to create a circle. Be sure your pattern is facing outward.

{Step Six} Generously apply hot glue to your base. Push the orange accordion fold down towards the center to create the medallion and attach to the base. {magical, right?} Add a dollop of hot glue to the back of your 4″ party circle and layer on top!

{Step Seven} Add ribbon to make a bow! Voila!

    Hi. I adore this! Thanks for posting it! But I printed the circles and the Beware is getting cut off slightly on the bottom. Anything I can do to change that? Just the bottom half of the circle doesn’t get printed..it’s not getting cut off by the paper, there is white paper left under the circle. But it is not printing the bottom OF the circle on the paper. Just the Beware circle. I hope this makes sense?

    Hello

    What program can I use to try and make some of these wonderful printables? I have seen some neat scrap booking software, but I haven’t seen anything that will run on my Mac. Any suggestions?

    • Kim says:

      Hi Dawn,
      I use Microsoft Publisher for most of my designs, but it is not available for Mac.
      For Mac, you could use PhotoShop or Illustrator.
      Hope this helps!
      Kim
